Getting to Mentawai requires a connection through Padang, West Sumatra — the gateway city to the archipelago. From Padang you can reach Sipora Island by domestic flight (fastest) or by ferry. Our team can assist with logistics for property visits.
Most international travellers connect through Jakarta (CGK) or Singapore (SIN). Both have excellent global connections and multiple daily flights to Padang.
Take a domestic flight to Minangkabau International Airport (PDG) in Padang. Airlines: Garuda Indonesia, Lion Air, Batik Air, Citilink. Frequent daily services from Jakarta and Singapore.
Fastest option. Susi Air operates scheduled flights from Padang's Tabing Airport to Rokot Airport on Sipora Island. Book in advance — seats are limited. Check current schedules directly with Susi Air.
The ASDP ferry departs from Bungus Port, Padang to Tuapejat, Sipora Island. Overnight ferry available. Slower but more affordable — good for moving larger amounts of luggage. Departures approx. 3× per week.
Private and charter fast boats operate from Padang to Sipora. More expensive but significantly faster than the ferry. Popular with surf tourism operators.
Tuapejat is the main town on Sipora Island and the base for Mentawai Real Estate. We can arrange property viewings and accommodation upon your arrival.
Padang (Tabing Airport) → Rokot Airport, Sipora. Approx. 45 minutes. Limited seats — book well in advance. Best for first-time visits and property viewings.
Bungus Port, Padang → Tuapejat, Sipora. 6–10 hours (overnight option available). Approx. 3× per week. Good value, suitable for extended stays.
Padang → Sipora. 3–4 hours. Higher cost but flexible timing. Popular with surf tourists and property buyers visiting multiple sites.
Most nationalities receive a 30-day visa on arrival at Indonesian international airports, extendable to 60 days.
Consult your doctor about malaria prophylaxis. Bring a basic first-aid kit — medical facilities on Sipora are limited.
ATMs are available in Tuapejat but can be unreliable. Bring enough Indonesian Rupiah (IDR) cash from Padang.
Mobile coverage exists in Tuapejat. Telkomsel has the best coverage on Sipora Island. Buy a SIM card in Padang.
April–October for surf and dry weather. November–March is the wet season but crowds (and prices) are lower.
